Wolf Parade sounds like Jeff Tweedy punching each member of Pink Floyd in the face. Twice. As exemplified by "Call it a Ritual," their music is an airy, ominous sound-scape, creating by pounding pianos, rumbling bass, and splashes of resonating guitar chords. The lyrics of the song - "Well into the desert you must go/So into the desert we must go/Call it a ritual/Call it whatever you will" - allude to the ever-present, almost ceremonial, nature of war - "a ritual" - and how those fighting in the war have, unwittingly, become the obedient puppets of "The Man." It is such metaphorical language that makes their songs clever, but sometimes indecipherable. I would have never guessed that "Language City" is about, according lead singer Spencer Krug, a "coke party" and "Soldier's Grin" is about a friend's failed relationship. These two songs are more trippy than "Call it a Ritual," incorporating alien synthesizers with a synth breakdown 3/4 of the way through "Language City." Wolf Parade is a mystic adventure through the bleak and the dreamy, and it's certainly worth the ride.

I don't agree with your piece in some respects (never really thought of wolf parade as trippy), but I have to say that is the best opening to a review in the history of reviews. Haha pure gold...
