The Wombats = Giddy

The Wombats are a cheeky British indie-pop band. Murphy, their lead singer, sounds like a modern day Robert Smith (The Cure), with his deep, evocative voice. The Wombats' tunes are in line with that danceable/bouncy tone that is oh-so-trendy right now, as the bass and stylish drums cut loudly through each track. If you've ever noticed, a British accent always seems to make the singer more credible. So when Murphy sings "I've met someone that makes me feel seasick" in "Kill the Director," his proclamation sounds incredibly sincere and poignant. "Kill the Director" is Murphy's cry against the stressful game of love, how romance rarely unfolds as it would in a "Bridget Jones" movie. "Let's Dance to Joy Division" is about blissful naivete - "Let's dance to Joy Division/And raise our glass to the ceiling/'Cos this could all so wrong/But we're just so happy/Yeah we're so happy." The Wombats capture the excitement of being a young adult; their music will make you giddy.
