A Sunday Question-- Were the creators of 'Doug' just scared to make Skeeter black because of the potential for stereotyping, or was it a strong statement of racial liberation by abandoning the regular lines of 'color'? Leave a comment below!

hmm, I think Hey Arnold proved that you could have the black friend (gerald) without looking overly stereotypical, but I never thought about the idea that the Doug writers might have been afraid of that. I think their choice for random colors though wasn't much of a statement, more of the safe way out of assigning ethnicities to characters.

Still I wonder, what ethnicity is Roger Klotz?

eh, idk, i don't think the writers from Doug were stupid, they definitely did the odd colors on purpose, and they also definitely wanted skeeter to be black haha.

As for Klotz? My guess is Puerto Rican, despite the oddly Jewish-sounding name.

i definitely agree about Roger being Puerto Rican or some sort of latino. As for Bebe, did anyone get the impression she was a mulatto?

I can totally see bebe being mulatto. The show made a lot of interesting choices, like putting Patty's dad in a wheelchair, but I guess it was in a similar light to Chuckie not having a mother, Arnold not having parents, Nickelodeon shows really gave you the whole range of family units.

hahah, great responses from everyone, thanks for commenting guys!

I'll throw my support towards Klotz being Latino, Bebe being Mulatto, and the writers of Doug being smart to avoid the topic all together.
