I Love Weezer.

Rivers Cuomo may have been a neurotic, love-struck man with a fetish for Asian girls when he wrote Weezer’s sophomore album, Pinkerton, but I still connect with him and this album like no other. The album’s lyrics make up the most bittersweet and candid portrait of a person who consistently fails with the ladies and longs for love, yet still remains hopeful – even when he discovers that the girl he has set out to marry is a lesbian. Ok, maybe that one incident is just particular to Rivers (see “Pink Triangle”).

Here’s the lowdown, track by track.

Tired of Sex – Sick and tired of meaningless, cold-hearted sex? Here’s your new jam.

Getchoo – You are, in a crazed rock-star sort of way, determined to win your love back.

Why Bother? - Sometimes things repeatedly fail. Marshmallows don’t fare well in microwaves. Now you know better.

No Other One – Self explanatory.

Across the Sea – For those of you who have received letters of affection from your Japanese fans, this is song was made for you.

The Good Life – Ok, so you’ve made some bad decisions in the past. So what if you confused the living room for the bathroom? It’s time to return to normalcy.

El Scorcho – Hello shy person who sits in the back of class. Don’t be afraid, I know your name starts with an S or something. It’s okay to say “hi.”

Pink Triangle – You’re dumb, she was a lesbian, but you really thought you had found the one!

Falling for You – Self explanatory.

Butterfly – Saying you’re sorry, the right way – with butterfly metaphors.
