Movie Preview Review: 2012

In all actuality, I was one of the people who bought into the whole 2000 paranoia. The millennium simply freaked me out, and after I woke up that morning I thankfully figured, eh, nothing else to worry about right? WRONG. 2012 baby! So yeah, while it almost kills me to watch this trailer the whole through, the movie concept is freaky as hell and holds a large degree of plausibility. But, how is one prepped for the end of the world? Is it better to go into it blindly, knowing something is terribly wrong only for the time the events are taking place, or better being forewarned? I can see the pros and cons of both sides, like having these last few years to really live your life to the fullest and all that feel-good business, yet on the other hand not living under the constant pressure of Damocles' sword hanging over your head. But then that also makes me ask, why should I be living my life any differently with the threat of death in the near distance. Why shouldn't I just do what I want, be with whom I want to be, not waste time on the banal, and seriously live it up. Because I mean, 2012 or whenever, the fact of the matter is none of us are immortal so we gotta do with the time we have the best we can. Can I hear an amen?!

The movie trailer is terrific ... and not a little terrifying (albeit a bit inaccurate on the scientific side). Nevertheless there are good reasons to believe that some of what unfolds in the trailer might actually happen - if not by 2012 then at some point not too far beyond that.

Your review, however reminds me of the recent signs on British double decker buses that read "There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

But if there IS a God (and there is equally good evidence that there is) then the question of how we spend the rest of our time here takes a different approach.
