Leonardo DiCaprio to Play Frank Sinatra? MLK Descendants Got Beef???

Biopics are the new black. Milk, Elizabeth, Walk the Line, Glory Road—all biopics that fiercely milked the box office. With that in mind, Hollywood bigwigs have set their sights on the stories of two other glorious figures: Frank Sinatra and Martin Luther King Jr.

The Frank Sinatra biopic will be, in one tiny word that doesn’t adequately describe my feelings on the matter: epic. Frank was a sexy man who could sing the hell out a song, and lived an insanely interesting life. The New Jersey native had connections to the mafia; he had been arrested; he married Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow; he won an Oscar; he sang like nobody’s business.

The Sinatra film will share the singer’s charm, but it’ll be different, that’s for sure. For starters, the movie will not even mention Ol’ Blue Eyes’ mafia connections—something that, you know, is no small potatoes. Especially when it could result in a pair of concrete shoes or a Chicago Overcoat (if you catch my drift). One thing, however, will remain a constant. Even in the film, Sinatra’s singing will be the real deal. Leonardo DiCaprio—the main contender for the role—has reportedly hired a voice coach to whip him into tip-top shape and help him nab the part in Martin Scorsese’s film. Word on the curb is that Johnny Depp is Leo’s biggest competition, so you know the movie will be good either way.

The MLK movie, however, isn’t looking too hot. DreamWorks was all set and ready to go, but even with the film in its baby stages, trouble is afoot. King’s three living children have been squabbling —they really don’t get along, it seems—and DreamWorks refuses to make the movie if they’re hating on each other. For a movie that tells a “great story which could bridge distances and bring people together,” as DreamWorks put it, fighting sort of puts a wrench in the works. So, naturally, the production studio says they won’t film the movie unless all three Kings settle their differences and get on with their lives.

Still to come: the Pauly Shore biopic, in which audiences across the globe learn the answer to the question, “Yeah, what happened to that guy?”
