Evanescence and Ex-American Idol Contestant Team Up For New Band, World Gets a Little More Angsty
Some things naturally go together. Peanut butter and jelly. Philandering executives and naive secretaries. CBS and shitty programming. So when it was reported this weekend that the ex-band members of Evanescence and season 7 American Idol contestant Carly Smithson would be having a press conference today to announce the formation of new band 'The Fallen,' we at PopSense naturally wondered if it was a good fit.
Quick history if you're unfamiliar with either--Evanescence was a band that had success with two or three singles in the mid-decade and could be heard blaring from any girl's radio who was experimenting with too much black nail polish. Carly Smithson was a member of the amateur American reality show competition despite not being an amateur or an American (she had already recorded an album before her time on the show. And she's Irish.)
It might work out. Both seem pretty fond of black clothes and brooding a lot. And this might actually be a descent remedy for both struggling bands and struggling AI contestants everywhere. Here are a few other pairings PopSense thought made a natural fit:
The Kinks and Sanjaya
Reason: Disgusting hair
The Doors and Justin Guarini
Reason: Both inexplicably kept going in the music industry despite the thing that truly made them famous (The Doors' Jim Morrison and Guarini's disgusting hair)
The Supremes and Clay Aiken
Reason: Queens of the Girl Group, Meet the Queen of American Idol
